These are less readily available, are often sold only in sets and may well be too flimsy for the handling they receive. They can be made so easily from small pieces of hardboard that it seems a pity to spend a great deal of money on them. Some construction toys made specially to look like fencing may be useful. Small pieces of J-inch square beading can be used to define areas. There may be other small pieces of wood around the house or in the wood box which children could find for themselves. It is worth asking builders who are laying parquet or wood-strip floors for any left-over or damaged pieces as these are very useful for fences and animal stalls.
