Most children like following a complicated path to reach a designated spot. They can be made with all kinds of material ranging from a large heavy one made in framed hardboard and I-inch batten which will take a marble (young children will push the marble round, older children can use it by putting a small rubber ball underneath as a pivot); hardboard trays with a maze made from foam draught-excluder impregnated with PVA glue; heavy board patterned with lolly sticks or wooden spills. Flat tiddley-wink counters or small buttons can be used for these small versions.
There is one new manufactured maze which has several different boards to use in a base containing a tipping mechanism. This requires the use of both hands. It would be great fun for older children but for young children is a little too complicated.
